The unification of Ukraine's four regions is ultimately Putin's
Russian President Vladimir Putin finalized the integration of four regions of Ukraine with Russia. He signed the law on Wednesday (October 5). Through this, those four regions were officially included in the Russian Federation. Meanwhile, Ukraine and Western countries strongly condemned Putin's move as 'illegal and a farce'.
Earlier on Tuesday (October 4), the Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian parliament, unanimously approved an agreement to join Ukraine's Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions with Russia. It was approved by the lower house State Duma on Monday (October 3) the day before.
According to Al Jazeera's report, the lower house of the Russian parliament said in a statement, 'Putin signed four constitutional laws to join Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson to the Russian Federation. He also signed the law related to recognition.
Russia started the Ukraine campaign in February this year. After that, in the last seven months, one-fifth of the country's territory has been occupied by Russian forces. Referendums were held late last month in four key areas of the controlled areas. After that, Russia announced to annex the regions to its territory. Western governments and Kiev say the vote is a violation of international law.
Meanwhile, Russia has enlisted the names of more than 200,000 people to deploy new troops in the Ukraine war. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Soigu said this on Tuesday (October 4). In a televised event on this day, the Defense Minister said, 'So far more than two lakh people have joined the army.'
Recently, the Russian forces have been in a bit of trouble due to the counterattack of the Ukrainian forces. In this context, Putin announced the deployment of the reserve army on September 21. The Russian president's office, the Kremlin, called it a 'partial military gathering' and said that 300,000 new troops would be sent to Ukraine.
